There are now many different ways to cover a Koi pond. One option that is often used is to cover the pond surface with air-filled PE balls. These are not only ideal for covering ponds but are also able to significantly reduce energy costs in heated Koi ponds.
The PE balls are available in a wide variety of colours and sizes. However, the pond cover balls do not completely darken the pond, but always let a little sunlight through. The PE balls are food safe and CE certified. Incidentally, the PE balls can be combined very well with other floating pond covers.
Polycarbonate Panels that can be used as fixed or floating pond covers can also be used as a pond cover. The panels are not harmful to health and can be combined with each other or with the PE balls already mentioned. They are very resilient and, like the pond cover balls, can withstand heavy snow without sinking. Panels for covering the pond have the advantage that they ensure the pond’s thermal protection to a large extent.
The plates can be nested inside one another and in this way optimally cover the pond surface. This property also means that the panels can be stored very easily. In addition, the cleaning of the plates is very easy to do – especially compared to cleaning PE balls. Floating pond plates are also particularly easy to attach. You simply place them on the surface of the pond and connect them with a snap system. Complicated installation is therefore not necessary.
Another possibility for pond cover is that of permanent cover. Such covers are often referred to as tent-shaped pond covers or greenhouse-style covers. The plates are attached by a simple assembly. These solid pond covers also ensure good energy efficiency and insulation. Fixed pond covers can only be used if the Koi pond is rectangular. Even when the cover is in place, individual panels can be lifted so that the koi can continue to be fed without any problems.
